Over the years, the Prairie Pest Monitoring Network has highlighted prominent insect pests, their natural enemies and the entomologists that study them. Now, the network is focusing on one insect a week, with wireworms most recently in the spotlight.
There are four primary pest species of wireworms on the Canadian Prairies, including Hypnoidus bicolor and the prairie grain wireworm (Selatosomus aeripennis destructor).
