Your fields, your farm: Getting the most from on-farm trials

Speaker: Megan Bourns, Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers

Ever wondered if you can reduce your seeding rate without sacrificing yield? Or maybe if that product your sales agronomist keeps pushing actually works? What about if fungicide application pays? Whether it’s these or other questions, on-farm trials are a powerful tool to inform your production decisions. This presentation will cover the need-to-know tips and tricks for conducting successful on-farm trials, bringing the power of research right to your field.

Megan Bourns, Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers

Megan graduated from the University of Manitoba in 2017 with a bachelor of science in agronomy, followed by her masters’ degree in soil science in 2020. Prior to completion of her MSc program, Megan joined the Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers in 2019 as the on-farm network agronomist. In her role, Megan facilitates the On-Farm Network (OFN), MPSG’s in-house participatory, precise and proactive research program that enables farmers to conduct field-scale research on their farms. She enjoys investigating farmers’ questions about pulse and soybean production in Manitoba through the diverse and dynamic on-farm program.
