OMAFRA: Keep an eye on fall armyworm levels

Tracey Baute, field crop entomologist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), is warning growers to keep an eye out for fall armyworm in the latest from Field Crop News. She says traps south of London and in Essex County have had very high captures of the pest, and that winter canola, winter cereals, forages and cover crops should be monitored for larvae – not just limited to the region of these traps.

As there are no established thresholds for fall armyworm, Baute notes that growers will have to make a judgement call on whether the level of injury or stand loss occurring could impact the crop’s winter survival. |READ MORE
