Bentley barley contracted for malt

Apr. 18, 2013, Winnipeg, MB – Alberta‐bred Bentley barley will be contracted for malt purposes, says CANTERRA SEEDS and Canada Malting. This is the first malt barley bred by Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development (AARD) to be commercially contracted for malt.

Bentley is a two‐row barley that is agronomically well-suited to the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan. Registered in 2008, Bentley combines high yield, and an excellent quality profile and agronomic package. CANTERRA SEEDS acquired the marketing rights to Bentley in 2008.

Alberta-based Canada Malting is looking to contract 20 to 30 thousand tonnes of Bentley from the 2013 crop in Alberta and Saskatchewan, as they begin testing the malt with brewers.
