Manipulator PGR now available for use on oats and barley

April 27, 2020  By Top Crop Manager

Manipulator, a plant growth regulator (PGR) previously registered only on wheat, is now available for use on oats and barley for the 2020 growing season.

Manipulator PGR may improve yields by helping plants develop shorter, stronger stalks. This results in better straw management, lodging prevention and overall improved harvest efficiencies.

2020 Keep It Clean program status: Manipulator on wheat, oats and feed and silage barley has a “no recommendations/green” classification. Malt barley specifically will have a “be informed/amber” classification.

Belchim malt barley recommendation: Producers growing malt barley under contract are encouraged to consult with their grain buyer prior to using Manipulator on barley. Some malt barley contracts may restrict against the use of Manipulator. Similarly, producers growing barley without a malt contract, but intending to sell their barley as malt quality, should also consult with their grain buyer. Failure to consult with your grain buyer prior to using Manipulator on malt barley could result in rejection. There are no restrictions on the use of Manipulator on feed barley.
