Long-term drought forecast for Southern Plains

Sept. 22, 2011 -The latest US Drought Monitor is forecasting extreme conditions for the rest of 2011, and perhaps even longer, especially if a La Nina effect that began in the fall of 2010 continues through the end of this year. Already, seeding of winter wheat in Oklahoma has been affected, with farmers using bin-run to save on costs, all while waiting for just enough rain to get their wheat germinated and to dormancy.    READ MORE
