June 5, 2014 - Seeding in Alberta is essentially completed with all regions at 95 per cent or better, according to the June 3 crop report. It is estimated that up to two per cent of acres may not get seeded due to excessive moisture.
Precipitation in amounts of 25-50 mm was noted in the western portion of the central region, the northeast and northwest regions. All other regions received light isolated showers.
Surface soil moisture ratings declined in all regions and were down nine per cent provincially to 84 per cent rated good or excellent. Sub soil moisture ratings declined to 87 per cent good or excellent from 93 per cent in the last report.
Insects have not been an issue to date with infestations rated as few to moderate.
