
Understanding the growth stages of corn throughout the season is important. Methods such as leaf-over and corn height help determine when to apply post emergence herbicides and other timing-sensitive practices.
Andrew Priest recently wrote an article titled “Have you been accurately staging your corn plants in later vegetative growth stages?” for the Field Crop News site. Priest is a research assistant in corn agronomy with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) and fourth-year crop science student at the University of Guelph.
He notes that the loss of early leaves to senescence makes it difficult to assess corn growth in later vegetative stages. |READ MORE
