Bayer stands by dicamba products and their importance to Canadian farmers

Bayer Crop Science Canada says a recent court ruling in the U.S. has no impact on Canada’s use or registration of Roundup Xtend® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology herbicide and XtendiMax® 2 with VaporGrip® Technology herbicide.

Bayer was responding to a U.S. District Court in Arizona ruling, which on Feb. 6 vacated the Environment Protection Agency’s (EPA) registrations for dicamba products based on procedural grounds, finding that the EPA “did not follow the FIFRA notice and comment provisions” when it issued the registrations.

Bayer says it stands behind the safety of its products, including dicamba, which is a herbicide for Canadian farmers.

This ruling is a result of a procedural error and not related to the safety of the product, Bayer said in a statement. There are no changes to MRLs (tolerances), enabling the export of agricultural products into the U.S.

Bayer says it respectfully disagrees with the ruling against the EPA’s registration decision, and the company is assessing its next steps. Bayer’s U.S. team is awaiting direction from the EPA on actions it could take in response to the ruling.
