Who is Ontario’s Outstanding Young Farmer for 2020?

January 27, 2020  By Top Crop Manager

Do you know a young farmer who contributes to the community, seeks new opportunities and is a general asset to Ontario’s agri-food industry? Here’s your chance to recognize them with the title of the 2020 Ontario Outstanding Young Farmer (OOYF).

Anyone can nominate a young farmer, farm couple or farm partnership for the award by Jan. 31, 2020. To be eligible for the award, the nominee(s) must be between the ages of 18 and 39, have an ownership stake in their farm and derive at least two-thirds of their income from their farm.

The nomination period closes on January 31; nominees will be contacted shortly thereafter and asked to complete a detailed application form. A preliminary judging committee will then review the submitted application forms and select the top candidates, who will participate in a 20-minute interview with three judges and will deliver a 15-minute presentation that depicts their farm. This will take place at the regional event in September, at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show. The winner will be announced at the conclusion of the event. The provincial winner will then compete in the national competition.
