USDA 2011 yield estimates decrease

Jan. 10, 2012 – The USDA will release the first expected supply and
production estimates of 2012 for various agricultural crops, but Reuters
has established an estimation based on the current market.

According to an analysis from The Bioenergy Site , the report expects that corn yields will decrease by 0.5 bushels, to 146.2, a net loss of 4.4 percent compared to the previous year.

The articles states that this decline in corn will decrease the 2011 USDA estimate by approximately 45 million bushels, resulting in a total yield of 12.265 billion bushels (1.5 percent lower than last year).

"USDA’s 2011 soybean yield estiamtes is expected to be raised slightly to
41.4 bushels per acre, up 0.1 bushels from last year. That yield would
be 4.9 per cent smaller than last year. The 2011 bean crop is, quite
logically, also expected to be slightly from last month’s estimate to
3.048 billion bushels. At that level, the 2011 crop would rank as the
sixth largest in history."
