Rain desperately needed in Alberta

June 5, 2015 - Seeding is virtually complete in Alberta, and approximately 82 per cent of the seeded crops have emerged, according to the latest Alberta Crop Report.

Most areas of the province have received a small amount of precipitation, but surface soil moisture ratings continue to decline, with 30 per cent of the province rated poor and 28 per cent rated good or excellent. Crops are currently performing well in all regions despite the dry conditions but immediate precipitation is needed to maintain a strong yield potential.

Flea beetles on canola are an issue in all regions with 12 per cent of the province rating damage as over threshold. Infestations are causing some growers to spray and some reseeding has occurred.
