Manitoba receives funding for sustainable agriculture initiatives

The Governments of Canada and Manitoba have announced a new $221 million agreement for strategic agricultural initiatives in Manitoba under the new Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP).

The Sustainable CAP is a five-year, $3.5-billion investment by Canada’s federal, provincial and territorial governments that supports Canada’s agri-food and agri-products sectors. This includes $1 billion in federal programs and activities and a $2.5 billion commitment that is cost-shared 60 per cent federally and 40 per cent provincially/territorially for programs that are designed and delivered by provinces and territories.

Applications can be submitted to Manitoba Agriculture for projects that will support the sustainable growth of the agriculture and agri-food sector.

The following programs are open for intake:

  • Market Development applications are open until April 4. Eligible applicants include agri-food processors, agri-product processors, abattoirs, brand owners, Indigenous governments, businesses, communities, and organizations. Funding is available to advance the agriculture, agri-food and agri-product sector’s innovation and business capacity to maintain existing markets and capture emerging market opportunities by implementing initiatives related to:

 

  • market information and research
  • market development, planning and training
  • product commercialization
  • domestic and international development activities
