To say the tractor has come a long way since its inception in the late-1860s is a bit of an understatement. From steam to gasoline-powered engines, and from rear-wheel to four-wheel drive models, the tractor has undergone several evolutionary stages, all geared to increasing efficiencies according to on-farm conditions and demands.
The front-wheel assist design is another of these evolutionary levels, and they are becoming increasingly popular, particularly as growers continue to push for earlier planting dates and working under less-than ideal conditions.
Which is why front-wheel assist tractors is Top Crop Manager’s latest offering in our series of Machinery Manager features. In all, eight manufacturers have contributed their specs, including the latest information on John Deere’s new 8R series tractors, and Case/IH”s new Magnum 225 model for 2010.
