IHARF will be expanding our on-farm research program in 2023! To kick-off this initiative, we will be hosting an On-Farm Research Seminar on November 17, 2022 in Regina. Speakers include Lewis Baarda, “Field-Tested” On-Farm Research Program Manager at Farming Smarter in Lethbridge, and Leanne Koroscil, On-Farm Network™ Agronomist with the Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers.

The goals of this interactive event are:

To learn from previous experiences in on-farm research. On-farm research specialists from organizations with established programs will speak about their successes and learning experiences, provide examples of projects, and share interesting findings. A panel of experienced producers will be interviewed about their involvement and experience with on-farm research.

To survey and engage potential producer collaborators about their on-farm research priorities. Round table discussion and questionnaires will be used to generate a comprehensive list of research topics that producers would be interested in seeing and/or conducting on their own farm, and to gain insight about why they may be hesitant to participate.

To inform producers about the benefits of on-farm research. Producers will learn about the advantages of working with research specialists, the value of investing time and resources in conducting on-farm research, the importance of scientifically sound experimental design and data collection, and the benefits of extensive replication and of sharing trial data.
