Ag Minister MacAulay announces $6.3 million to keep Canadian crop farmers on the cutting edge

Lawrence MacAulay, minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food, announced an investment of up to $6.3 million in funding to the Western Grains Foundation for a five-year Integrated Crop Agronomy cluster that will focus on agronomy research into multi-crop and integrated crop production.

In addition to the government investment, industry has added an addition $2.7 million raising the total invested to $9 million for agronomy research. All the funding falls under the Canadian Agriculture Partnership and AgriScience Program. It will be the first AgriScience Cluster focused solely on agronomy research.

Research completed under this science cluster will focus on resilience to climate change, improving the sustainability of crops in multi-crop, whole-farm cropping systems, and knowledge and technology transfer.
