Here are the newest soybean and dry bean varieties that are being introduced in commercial quantities for 2010. Talk to your local seed supplier to confirm seed availability and to find out how new varieties performed locally.

SOYBEANS
HS 005R04 is a 2575 crop heat unit (CHU), Roundup Ready soybean with excellent yield potential from Hyland Seeds. This brown hilum variety has great standability and very good plant health.

DEKALB 26-10RY is bringing ground-breaking technology to Manitoba with Monsanto’s new Genuity Roundup Ready 2 Yield trait. Dekalb 26-10RY has excellent standability with very high yield potential. Registration is pending and supply is limited.

PS 0027 RR is a new high-yielding Roundup Ready variety from Pride Seeds available for 2010. It is a taller variety at 2425 CHU, suitable for all soils types with excellent yield potential.

LS 0028RR from Quarry Grain Commodities is an early season variety, daylight sensitive, with very high yield potential. It has excellent seed genetics, and small seed size, which means lower seed cost.

S00-H7 from Univar Canada has a CHU rating of 2500, and is a true medium-bush plant type that is medium height. It is adapted to all row widths and has excellent standability. S00-H7 has above-average iron deficiency chlorosis tolerance and good phytophthora root rot field tolerance for a high yielding soybean. 

S00-W3 is a 2450 CHU soybean with excellent yields. A great early choice, S00-W3 has very good emergence and above-average standability and stress tolerance. S00-W3 is resistant to phytophthora root rot to help deliver top performance. Also available from Univar.

PINTO BEANS
Mariah, from Canterra Seeds, displays early maturity while maintaining a strong yield. It matures one to four days earlier than Maverick and has very good lodging resistance. It has semi-erect growth (type lla to llb), has 1257 seeds/lb and is rated R to bean common mosaic virus (BCMV) and rust race 53.

Medicine Hat is very early maturing with remarkable quality, and is also from Canterra Seeds. It matures three to five days earlier than Maverick and has excellent lodging resistance. It has erect growth (type lla), has 1140 seeds/lb, and is rated R to the NY15 race of BCMV and rust race 53.

NAVY BEANS
HY 4181 is a mid-season navy bean from Hyland Seeds, and is a semi-upright plant that is well podded. It is a high yielding variety with very good plant health. n
