Waldheim grain farmers named Saskatchewan’s 2013 Outstanding Young Farmer

June 27, 2013 - Grain farmers Chad and Darlene Krikau have been chosen as Saskatchewan's 2013 Outstanding Young Farmers (OYF). The Krikaus own and operate Stream Stick Farms Ltd. at Waldheim, Sask., and received the special honour recently at the Farm Progress Show.

Chad began his grain farming career in 1995 when he rented 110 acres from his father. From that first crop to their current 2,630 acre farm, the Krikaus have steadily expanded their farming operation and family. In recent years, the Krikaus have continually worked to find new ways to overcome challenges of flooded land and bring them back into production in an environmentally sound way.

Celebrating 33 years of identifying great agricultural successes, Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers' program is an annual competition to recognize farmers that exemplify excellence in their profession and promote the tremendous contribution of agriculture. Open to participants 18 to 39 years of age, making the majority of income from on-farm sources, participants are selected from seven regions across Canada, with two national winners chosen each year.

Canada's Outstanding Young Farmers for 2013 will be chosen at the National Event in Regina, Saskatchewan from November 12-17, 2013.
