Saskatchewan Pulse Growers (SPG) is a not-for-profit organization representing and supporting approximately 15,000 pulse crop growers in Saskatchewan. Integrated Pest Management (IPM), including agronomic solutions pertaining to insects, weeds, and diseases, is imperative to boosting profitability through increasing yields of established pulse crops. Research focused on IPM strategies in pulses continues to be a funding priority by SPG with on-going communication of results and recommendations. Each season highlights a unique pest challenge and this may not be the same across each farm or pulse crop so it is important for agronomists and growers to be regularly scouting and be informed of effective and responsible application of pesticide practices. Responsible pesticide use is critical to prevent maximum residue limits from being exceeded and ensure continued market access for pulses. Diversifying pesticide applications and using a combination of EFFECTIVE modes-of-action are also key strategies for management of herbicide resistant weeds and fungicide insensitive pathogens in pulse crops.
