May 12, 2014, Ontario – Pesticide safety was a priority for more than 5,400 farmers who completed the Grower Pesticide Safety Course this year, with another 200 Ontario vendors also passing the Pesticide Vendor Certification Course.
The courses, offered by the Ontario Pesticide Education Program at the University of Guelph's Ridgetown Campus, have been offered for nearly 25 years and focus on topics such as product information, health and environmental risk management, pesticide application and pesticide safety practices. The majority of growers completed the full-day in-class or online training, and more than 50 ag retail businesses hosted the in-class courses at their locations across the province.
