OMAFRA: The extremes of this year’s forage crops

Christine O’Reilly, forage and grazing specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), has posted a report on the state of forage crops in Ontario as of Aug. 31. Currently, there are reports of fall armyworm in perennial forage crops, silage corn, and forage cereals, and growers should be proactive in scouting crops for this insect pest.

Due to the extreme drought faced by farmers in Northern Ontario, hay has been in short supply for many livestock producers in that area and on the Prairies.
