OMAFRA: Forage guide update now available

According to the September forage report published by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ (OMAFRA’s) field crop team, silage corn growers should be on the lookout for Bt-resistant corn rootworm, and consult their agronomist to plan alternate crop rotations or other mitigation methods to deal with this insect pest. The report also covers a regional breakdown of forage conditions, Agricorp deadlines, and a precision agriculture pasture production project taking place in four locations. |READ MORE

As well, OMAFRA has updated Publication 30: Guide to Forage Production, available as a PDF download or print copy in English and French. The guide is meant to be a comprehensive resource on forage agronomy and has information on establishment, fertility, weed management and weather stress for many species grown as forage in Ontario. It also covers harvest and storage of forage crops and understanding a laboratory forage analysis. |READ MORE
