AAFC's Keith Downey nominated for peace award
Keith Downey, senior research scientist with AAFC in Saskatoon, Sask., has been nominated for the Oslo Business Peace Award. Downey has been breeding Brassica oilseed and mustard crops for more than 50 years and was instrumental in the development of canola.

Richardson increases canola crushing capacity in Yorkton
Following a $30 million expansion project, Richardson's Yorkton plant began processing 3,000 tonnes of canola per day, an increase from 2,400 tonnes per day, on April 1. The facility now has the capacity to process more than one million tonnes of canola per year.

Grain research, production and processing gets boost in Manitoba
The federal and Manitoba governments are providing a combined $20 million toward projects under the province’s new Grain Innovation Hub. This figure is supplemented by additional funding from industry partners which is expected to bring the total investment to over $33 million.

Axial now available for use on winter wheat
Axial can be applied to winter wheat as early as the 1-leaf stage and as late as the flag leaf stage; it can be applied to grass weeds beginning at the 1-leaf stage through to 6-leaf, prior to the fourth tiller stage.
