Big crops come with a price
Bin busting yields are good news for farmers across the Prairies. But those high yields removed a lot of nutrients from the soil. Soil scientist Rigas Karamanos says farmers need to soil test this spring to see how their soil nutrient values have changed, and to help develop fertilizer application rates for their 2014 crop.

Agriculture scholarship helps build young careers
Federated Co-operatives Limited (FCL) has launched their Excellence in Ag Program. The program includes a scholarship up to $20,000, summer internships and opportunity for future employment to four students in Western Canada pursuing a post-secondary education in agriculture or business.

Old Tyme Harvest raises $135,000
Langenburg, Saskatchewan’s Olde Tyme Harvest for Hunger presented Canadian Foodgrains Bank $135,000, raised last August when 42 threshing machines operated simultaneously, breaking a world record for most vintage threshing machines operating at one time.
