Record harvest in 2013
Production of most field crops increased in 2013 compared with 2012 as yields reached a number of record highs. Both canola and wheat production reached record levels in 2013. Despite a late start to the spring seeding, weather conditions that prevailed up to the end of summer led to higher than normal yields, especially in the West.

Increase in Western grain exports
According to the Canadian Grain Commission’s year to date data, exports of western Canadian grain are higher in comparison with data from the same time last year and the 5-year average. The volume of grain shipped by producer cars is also higher than at the same time last year.

Record canola crop reflects continued momentum in industry
The industry set a new record for average annual production over a three-year period. Production for 2011-2013 has averaged out to 15.48 million tonnes per year, compared to 13.76 million tonnes per year for 2010-2012.

Tier 4 regulations update
At this point, manufacturers already must meet Tier 4 Interim standards for some horsepower ranges, and must meet Tier 4 Final by Jan. 1, 2014, for equipment larger than 175 hp. They have an additional year to make sure equipment between 75 to 175 hp meets the regulations.
