New workshop helps develop new opportunities

Ottawa –There are many new ways to build profits and find new sources of income on your farm – let CFBMC show you how.

The Canadian Farm Business Management Council (CFBMC) has developed a new workshop designed to assist farmers in finding and developing new opportunities on their farms. Value Plus ™ –a Quest for New Farm Value, is a workshop that will walk farmers through every part of the process from conception to implementation.

"We know farmers are looking for more and unique ways to earn money on their farms. I believe the Value Plus workshops will assist farmers in not only identifying these opportunities, but also finding ways to make them a reality," says Lidy Romanuk, Project Manager, CFBMC.

The two-day Value Plus workshop is facilitated by Gary Morton, co-author of Building Added Value Through Farm Diversification, who will guide participants through a number of steps including:

• Identify, find and qualify new value-added ideas and opportunities

• Create a simplified business plan

• Learn about financing the different stages of the new venture

• Follow a new product from conception to integration into the marketplace

• Examine case studies of real farm businesses that are successfully adding value

"The two-day workshops allow Gary and the participants to run through the whole process and find all the possible opportunities and hurdles and work through them together. This workshop will give everyone the inspiration and the tools needed to go back to the farm and create new sources of income," says Romanuk.

Two workshops take place in Western Canada –Airdrie, Alberta -January 16 and 17, 2009 and Watrous, Saskatchewan -February 3 and 4, 2009. Space is limited in these comprehensive workshops, so book your spot early to avoid disappointment.
