New canola hybrid available from Syngenta
Sept. 17, 2013, Guelph, ON - Syngenta Canada Inc. has released new canola hybrid SY4114, a mid-season, Genuity Roundup Ready hybrid canola variety that performs well across all growing zones in Western Canada.
Rated R (resistant) for blackleg, SY4114 has demonstrated strong yield performance and very good standability versus checks in large-scale trials conducted across the Prairies, including the following data collected from 2012 third-party private trials:
• Yield: 104 per cent of DEKALB 73-45 (22 sites); 99 per cent of DuPont Pioneer 45H29 (14 sites)
• Maturity: 0.9 days later than 73-45; 0.7 days earlier than 45H29
• Height: 2 inches or 5.8 cm taller than 73-45; 5 inches or 12.7 cm shorter than 45H29
• Lodging: +0.3 compared to 73-45 and 45H29
SY4114 will be available for sale in limited commercial quantities this fall for seeding in 2014, and is the second variety in the Syngenta canola seed offering that was announced in October 2012. Together with SY4135, this new canola variety complements the existing Syngenta canola portfolio of Helix Vibrance seed treatment, Touchdown Total herbicide, Astound fungicide and Matador insecticide.
