MAFRD Fusarium head blight risk maps now online

June 24, 2014 - Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (MAFRD) has launched its Fusarium Head Blight Risk forecast web page.

Frequent and scattered rains throughout the province in the last few days would have helped release Fusarium spores into the air, according to Vikram Bisht, field crops pathologist with MAFRD. If the crops are heading or near heading, fungicide application should be considered. Rain or dew in the morning create favourable conditions, and can keep the florets prone to infection.

The Fusarium Head Blight Risk forecast web page will be updated daily with the current risk maps. In addition, archived maps - which include all maps from this growing season - are available.
