KAP concerned about lawn pesticide ban

May 1, 2013, Winnipeg, MB - Managers with Keystone Agriculture Producers in Manitoba have met with the province's water stewardship minister to discuss the impact of a proposed cosmetic pesticides ban.

Manitoba's conservation minister all but confirmed last year there will be a ban on lawn pesticides to control dandelions and other weeds.

The Keystone group says it reiterated its concerns about weed pressure and seed drift from urban areas onto farmland, and the effect such a ban will have on production.

The NDP government released a discussion paper last year which pointed out that all other provinces except Saskatchewan and British Columbia have restrictions on lawn chemicals to control weeds.
