Irrigation numbers across the country down in 2010

Sept. 19, 2011 -The numbers on farm irrigation are in, and Statistics Canada is reporting significant drops in the area covered and the volumes used in 2010. Last year, more than 838 million cubic metres were used, with Alberta leading the way at 59 percent and British Columbia in second with 28 percent. About 1.3 million acres (0.53 million hectares) were irrigated, a drop of 27 percent from 2007, with water volumes down 44 percent.                   READ MORE
