Health Canada approves Omega-3 Canola in Canada
August 12, 2020 By Top Crop Manager
On July 30, Health Canada confirmed that the proprietary DHA canola products produced by Nuseed Americas Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Nufarm Limited, are safe for consumption. Their DHA refined canola oil has been deemed safe for human consumption and their DHA canola crude oil and meal are safe for aquaculture and livestock feed, respectively.
In releasing its assessment, Health Canada determined that the highly refined oil derived from Nuseed’s Omega-3 Canola is safe for human consumption as-is or in foods in Canada.
Separately, The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) determined that Nuseed’s Omega-3 Canola meal is safe for use in livestock feed and the oil is safe for use in fish feeds. CFIA further confirmed that Omega-3 Canola poses no increased environmental risk comparing to other cultivated canola and is approved for cultivation.
Brent Zacharias, Nuseed group executive, said the Canadian regulatory approvals are an important milestone in the development and commercialization of Omega-3 Canola.
Nuseed partners with growers on strict identity preserved contracts and adheres to the highest stewardship standards in production, having achieved Excellence Through Stewardship certification.
