Harvest in full swing in Alberta

Aug. 21, 2015 - Harvest operations are in full progress across Alberta, according to the provincial crop report. Compared to most years, harvest is one week ahead at this time.

Due to recent rain, sub-soil moisture reserves in the province have improved five per cent from last week and are rated as 32 per cent good to excellent, while in the central region it is 50 per cent good to excellent. Overall, surface soil moisture is rated as 36 per cent good to excellent, up eight per cent from last week.

Most of the province south of the Peace Region received from five to 70 mm of precipitation. Large areas in the central and northeast regions received over 30 mm of precipitation, with some areas in the M.D. of Wainwright and Flagstaff County receiving upwards of 60-70 mm. Some of the southern parts of the south region and most of the Peace Region received little to no rain.
