Hail damage claims up in Saskatchewan

Aug. 15, 2008, Regina, Sask. - The summer of 2008 is going down as notable for another weather-related reason across the Prairies: hail damage in Saskatchewan is the cause of a growing number of claims and driving numbers up compared to those in 2007.

Aug. 15, 2008, Regina – Saskatchewan Municipal Hail says damage claims are far exceeding those from 2007, which was one of the worst years ever for hail damage. Spokesman Murray Otterson says hail damage was reported somewhere in the province's grainbelt every day during July.

Adjusters are still dealing with claims from June, and it may be next month before they get around to looking at damage caused by storms last Sunday.

Covering the damage won't be cheap.

Otterson estimates there have been around 15,0000 claims made so far this year and each one will be worth as much as $10,000.
