Great Plains re-designs canola seed disc
Sept. 11, 2013 - Great Plains has introduced a newly designed canola seed disc with an 11-inch (27.94 cm) diameter and 250 cells, allowing greater accuracy as the meter wheel turns at a low RPM.
According to Great Plains, static cling can be detrimental to successful metering, so the company increased the amount of anti-static material in its Air-Pro Meter brushes when it developed the new disc for canola singulation. Also, the seed tube material has been changed to be more transparent, allowing the sensor greater monitoring capability.
Air-Pro Meters are available on all Great Plains Yield-Pro Planters. On some models, the Yield-Pro Planter's 25-Series Row Unit is capable of row spacings as narrow as 9½- to 10-inches (24.13 to 25.4 cm) – which is especially significant for canola.
To convert to the improved unit, Great Plains is offering a Canola Field Kit that includes the canola disc, as well as the improved brushes and seed tube. The new Air-Pro Meters, complete with canola disc, have already been field trialed in Manitoba, and will be available for purchase from any authorized Great Plains dealer.
