Funding for new flour milling plant

The federal government is investing $10 million in a wheat flour milling plant Parrish and Heimbecker, Ltd. plans to build in Hamilton, Ont.

October 31, 2016  By Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada

The state-of-the-art plant will have a built-in traceability feature to help identify specific product batches in the event of a product recall. It will also use the latest technology in the wheat cleaning process to improve food safety by doing a better job of removing impurities before milling.

The new plant will allow the company to increase production capacity and expand export markets. As a result, Parrish and Heimbecker expects to buy more wheat from producers, quadrupling its procurement.

This funding is a repayable investment being made through the Growing Forward 2 AgriInnovation Program.
