The
European Commission said Thursday it appealed against a WTO ruling rejecting
the EU's ban on imports of U.S. and Canadian beef containing
growth-enhancing hormones, according to media reports.
A WTO panel ruled that the EU's rationale for the import ban isn't supported by
scientific evidence.
The commission said it appealed the panel's ruling because the decision was
rife with "legal errors," disagreeing that the EU's ban is illegal
and challenging that WTO failed to order the United
States and Canada to
scrap retaliatory sanctions on European products
