Empty shipping containers leave crops stranded

Canadian field crop exports are among the many food products stranded by a global shipping container crisis.
As China has rebounded from the pandemic faster than other countries and exports increase, they’re paying a premium for the shipping containers. This has led to more shipping containers travelling empty, leaving exports from other countries stuck on the docks.
The short-term consequences mean food products not getting where they need to be when they need to be. The long-term consequences could be an overall increase in shipping costs, translating to greater costs at each step in the supply chain. |READ MORE
