Early season root rot in soybeans and sunflowers
Early season root rot has been reported in both soybeans and sunflowers, according to Manitoba Agriculture's Insect and Disease update.

Samples of sunflowers gathered from the south-Interlake region show symptoms of wilting and pinching off at the soil line. According to the report, fusarium root rot is suspected as it typically thrives under drier conditions. The affected plants were scattered throughout the field and the infection was severe enough in cases that some plants will be a complete loss.
Affected soybeans from the central and southeastern regions were sent to a lab for confirmation. Phytophthora root rot is suspected in the sample that came from a heavier clay soil in central Manitoba and Rhizoctonia root rot in the sample from southeastern Mantioba. The incidence of disease in these fields was low overall, but the affected plants were obvious.
Current insects to watch include diamondback moth, grasshoppers and thrips on barely. | READ MORE
