Disease and insect incidence in Manitoba high
July 5, 2014 - Soybean brown spot and bacterial blight are showing up in more fields in Manitoba, according to the province's most recent insect and disease update.
Tan spot and Septoria leaf spots are showing up in the lower canopy in many crops; few with flag leaf spotting. The risk for Fusarium head blight is still very high. Crop scouting is necessary to correctly time the fungicide application.
Prior to the heavy rain on the weekend, grasshoppers were the biggest insect concern in the province, with some control measures being taken, mainly along field edges. The province is assessing what effects the heavy rains have had on populations of insects such as grasshoppers and diamondback moth.
