Deadline approaches for OSCIA’s Soil Champion award

The deadline to nominate someone to be Ontario Soil and Crop Improvement Association's Soil Champion, an annual award recognizing excellence in sustainable soil management and those who advocate for the cause, is Nov. 1, 2018.

The award rewards growers who make use of sustainable soil management practices such as: making the most efficient use of nutrients, building the population and diversity of soil organisms, and effectively managing surface water to support reduced tillage systems. To be elgible an individual must be a resident of Ontario and/or have contributed to soil management in a way that improves soil health, and supports sustainable crop production.

The 2018 Soil Champion is Daniel Breen from Middlesex County. Previous winners include Eric Kaiser (Lennox and Addington). Tyler Vollmerhausen (Oxford) and Dean Glenney (Haldimand).
