Growers are advised to check local performance trials to aid them with their variety selections.

Canada Western Red Spring
AAC Cameron VB is a midge-tolerant wheat and offers very high yield, with resistance to orange wheat blossom midge. AAC Cameron VB is an awned variety with improved lodging tolerance and reduced DON accumulation. Available at Canterra Seeds retailers.

AC Prevail VB is a new midge-tolerant Canada Western Red Spring (CWRS) variety that consistently captures top spot for yield in zones 1 and 2 in Saskatchewan and leads performance in Alberta and western Manitoba. It shows good sprout tolerance and lower Fusarium head blight (FHB) and deoxynivalenol (DON) results than many moderately-resistant rated lines in the Manitoba Crop Variety Evaluation Trials (MCVET). Available at participating Alliance Seed retail locations.

AAC Redberry is a very early maturing, good standing, high protein semi-dwarf. It has shown very high yields across all Prairie production zones. In two years of testing in MCVET trials, AAC Redberry has shown lower FHB incidence, severity and DON accumulation levels than many moderately-resistant (MR) rated lines. Available at participating Alliance Seed retail locations.

AAC Viewfield is high yielding with up to 117 per cent of the western provincial checks. It is the shortest CWRS wheat and stands poker-straight. It has an intermediate (I) rating to FHB and good sprouting resistance. Available at FP Genetics and participating retailers.

CDC Landmark VB is a midge-tolerant wheat with top-in-class yields of up to 113 per cent of the western provincial checks. It is the first semi-dwarf variety in the midge-tolerant class and has an I rating for FHB. CDC Landmark is available at FP Genetics and participating retails.

SY Slate is well-suited to all soil zones across Western Canada, with the highest relative yields in darker soils. This variety delivers high yields and early maturity, along with high protein and an excellent quality profile. SY Slate also has a strong disease package with good tolerance to all major rusts and FHB. Available from local Syngenta retailers.

SY479 VB is an early maturing, very high protein CWRS line with yield similar to the check AC Carberry. SY479 VB is midge-tolerant and shows very good standability in the field. It is ideally suited for production areas in north and east Saskatchewan and western Manitoba. Available at participating Alliance Seed retail locations.

SY Sovite is a high-yielding, early- to medium-maturity variety well-suited to all soil zones of Western Canada. The variety brings a quality profile along with a strong disease package that includes very good tolerance to FHB and foliar diseases, including all rusts and leaf spots. Available exclusively through local Richardson retailers.

Canada Prairie Spring Red
AAC Crossfield is a desirable combination of short, strong straw and early maturity. AAC Crossfield is a high yielding, semi-dwarf awned variety that is suitable for all growing zones. Available at Canterra Seeds retailers

SY Rowyn brings new genetic parentage to the Canada Prairie Spring Red (CPSR) class. This includes shorter flowering periods typical of CWRS lines to help reduce grade risk, strong FHB resistance, strong standing semi-dwarf stature, and the high yield potentials producers are after when growing Canada Northern Hard Red (CNHR) lines, without sacrificing end use quality and demand. New agronomy to the class, improved quality for end-users and rising market demand for high yielding, mid-protein wheat are all reasons for producers across the Prairies to reconsider growing CPSR and give SY Rowyn a try. Available at participating Alliance Seed retail locations.

Canada Western Soft White Spring
AAC Indus VB has improved milling quality. Yield is 105 per cent of AC Andrew, with three days later maturity and six centimetres more height. AAC Indus VB is midge-tolerant and is paired with AC Andrew as a refuge. The variety fits traditional soft white milling markets and works well for ethanol, and the straw strength makes it a great fit for silage production. Available from SeCan.

Canada Western Special Purpose
KWS Alderon is a high-yielding special purpose wheat originally from the United Kingdom. Yield is 129 per cent of AC Carberry CWRS and 103 per cent of Pasteur special purpose wheat. It’s a great fit for feed, ethanol or silage. KWS Alderon has very short, exceptionally strong straw that allows it to handle high inputs for maximum yield potential. Available from SeCan.

KWS Charing VB is a special purpose wheat originally from the United Kingdom. Yield is 129 per cent of AC Carberry CWRS and 103 per cent of Pasteur special purpose wheat. A great fit for feed, ethanol or silage, KWS Charing VB is midge-tolerant and requires a stewardship agreement. This variety has exceptionally strong straw that allows it to handle high inputs for maximum yield potential. Available from SeCan.

KWS Sparrow VB is a high-yielding special purpose wheat originally from the United Kingdom. Yield is 132 per cent of AC Carberry CWRS and 106 per cent of Pasteur special purpose wheat. It’s a great fit for feed, ethanol or silage. It is midge-tolerant and requires a stewardship agreement. KWS Sparrow VB has exceptionally strong straw that allows it to handle high inputs for maximum yield potential. Available from SeCan.

Oat
CDC Norseman is a white hulled milling oat that is currently under market development evaluation. Registration data shows excellent milling quality. Yield is 102 per cent of AC Morgan, it is rated MR to crown rust and matures three days earlier than AC Morgan, all with similar plant height. Available from SeCan.

Barley
AAC Connect is a two-row malting barley with similar malt qualities to AC Metcalfe with yield and agronomic improvements. It has short strong straw, heavy plump kernels and the best FHB resistance in its class. Available at Canterra Seeds retailers.

CDC Bow has the strongest straw available in a two-row malt. Yield is 109 per cent of AC Metcalfe (in 2011 to 2012 registration trials). Maturity is similar to AC Metcalfe but with lower grain
protein. Ask domestic maltsters about the potential for an identity-preserved contract for CDC Bow for 2018. Available from SeCan.

Durum
AAC Cabri is a high-yielding durum with a solid stem for sawfly protection. Yield averages 108 per cent of AC Strongfield (2010 to 2013 registration trials) and is three centimetres taller, with similar straw strength to AC Strongfield. Available from SeCan.

AAC Congress is a new Canada Western Amber Durum (CWAD) available for the 2018 planting season. AAC Congress is a high yielding durum wheat with superior end-use qualities, plus low DON accumulation and high pigment concentration. Available at Canterra Seeds retailers.

CDC Alloy is a superior composite of Strongfield and Brigade. It has top-in-class yields of up to 114 per cent of the western provincial checks. It’s a short-strawed variety with good standability and strong rust resistance. Available at FP Genetics and participating retails.

CDC Precision is a CWAD that yields 116 per cent of Strongfield and is the highest yielding line in all Saskatchewan production zones. Rated very good (VG) for standability and MR or resistant (R) for all rusts. Available through Alliance Seed retail locations and Seed Net.

Canada Northern Hard Red
AAC Concord is an awnless, high yielding, solid stem variety that provides protection against damage from wheat stem sawfly. This milling wheat boasts significant disease improvements, including improved FHB resistance and triple R resistance to rusts. Available at Canterra Seeds retailers.
