Dec. 22, 2011 – Canadian farmers are just as likely to purchase a smart
phone or tablet as other Canadians, according to a report released by
Farm Credit Canada.

The study also found that more than half of Canadian producers own a smartphone and plan to buy a tablet within two years. As well, with wireless connectivity and hand-held devices so prevalent, farmers are able to multi-task and place orders, monitor weather and market prices, says Farm Credit Canada.

"Innovation has always been a major driver of profitability in
agriculture and mobile technology is just one more tool available to
gain a competitive edge," said Jean-Philippe
Gervais, a senior agriculture economist for the lender.
