Business Management Council urges growers to sharpen competitive edge
February is meeting month in the agri-food sector and across the country, various groups and organizations are holding special one-day seminars. In this particular series the organizer is the Canadian Farm Business Management Council with two seminars being held in Ontario in February.

Ottawa, Ontario –If you don’t take care of your tools, you won’t get the job done. The same is true for business – without the proper tools and the knowledge to use them, you may not achieve the success you want.
Value chains are a fairly new tool for farm businesses so the Canadian Farm Business Management Council (CFBMC) wants to provide you with the skills and the knowledge to use them successfully. The Value Chain Management Workshops will do just that.
"We realize that it takes awhile to integrate new business practices into the farm and that it can be intimidating to venture into a value chain partnership. We want to provide as much support to farmers as we can, and make these tools accessible to everyone who is interested," says Kay Grulich, CFBMC senior project manager.
The CFBMC is taking the workshops to five locations across Canada this year (three in Western Canada), to provide farmers access to some of the best information available. Discover successful value chains world-wide; participate in discussions with other farmers and learn best practices; learn about the basics of value chains and how you can use this tool as part of your business strategy.
Over 1,000 participants have attended the Value Chain Management Workshops in the past three years. "Past participants have said they appreciated the use of real-life producers and processors currently involved in value chains because they were able to relate to them," says Grulich. "We have also received positive reviews about the value of the facilitators and support materials."
