July 18, 2014 - Manitoba Agriculture, Food and Rural Development (MAFRD) specialists are warning growers that flowering canola crops need to be protected against white mould (sclerotinia) since there have been many rain events lately.
In addition, according to Vikram Bisht, plant pathologist with MAFRD, Phytophthora root rot of soybean has also started showing up, especially in flooded fields. And, early lesions of sunflower rust have been found in a second location.
In the most recent MAFRD insect and disease update, John Gavloski, entomologist with MAFRD, says alfalfa weevil levels are quite noticeable in some alfalfa fields, but they are now starting to pupate, so levels are declining.
