Assess canola losses with a drop pan

Aug. 11, 2015 - Producers know canola losses occur out the back of the combine. But are losses high enough to warrant the time spent to reduce them? They certainly are for some combines and in some conditions.

According to the Canola Council of Canada, combines could be throwing over five bushels per acre and growers may not even realize it because the seeds are so difficult to see once they hit the ground. To make an improvement on canola harvest losses, it first helps to know the current loss situation. That requires a drop pan.
