A partnership agreement that will promote agricultural shows and business delegations in both Argentina and Canada was signed on Thursday at the Canadian Western Agribition (CWA).

The memorandum of understanding between Luis Etchevehere, director of the Sociedad Rural Argentina, and Shannon McArton, president of the CWA, confirms a commitment between the two organizations to assist each other with their annual agriculture and livestock shows until December 2012.

Stewart Stone, chair of the International Business Centre at Agribition, said that "the agreement is expected to deepen friendship links, improve bilateral technical co-operation and improve the commercial exchange" between Agribition and La Exposicion Rural, which is held in Palermo, Buenos Aires every year.

A similiar promotional contract has been in place with Brazil's Expointer show since 2006. La Exposicion Rural has been running since 1866 and attracts more than 700,000 visitors and 4,000 head of livestock annually.

"Doing this we are going to obtain more benefits for the consumers … we are going to have mutual benefits because our ranchers — the people we represent and work for — will compare the work from both countries," said Etchevehere.

McArton said that the Argentines are hoping to learn about the technical expertise around managing shows and livestock venues. She also mentioned that Canada has a lot of promotional opportunities in Argentina, which is huge market for Canadian beef genetics.
