Agri-Food think tank launches new website and services
Aug. 23, 2012, Guelph, ON - The George Morris Centre has launched a new and improved website at www.georgemorris.org. The new website is part of the Centre’s renewed emphasis on the broader agri-food sector economic and policy issues, education programming, the Value Chain Management Centre, and its unique market analysis capacity. Led by Fiona Stirling, Director, Finance and Operations, in cooperation with Centre staff, the new website provides quick and easy access to the Centre’s information, analysis, materials and the Centre’s team service for the Centre’s members, clients, students and alumni.
The George Morris Centre is also pleased to formally announce the launch of a new agri-food policy report, Agri-Food Policy Matters Quarterly. This new subscription publication provides analysis and insights on current policy issues affecting Canada’s agri-food sector in an easy to read format for anyone who has a stake in Canada’s agri-food sector. The first issue, which was sent out last week to Centre members and an initial group of Centre clients, is available on the Centre’s website at http://www.georgemorris.org/publications/policy-matters. The report’s development and launch was led by Claudia Schmidt, Research Associate, along with several other Centre team members. Ms. Schmidt has also taken the lead in developing social media links for the Centre on Facebook and Twitter.
The George Morris Centre in full cooperation with the College of Management and Economics (CME) at the University of Guelph is pleased to announce the establishment of the George Morris Centre scholarships at the CME. These scholarships are in “recognition of the work and role of the George Morris Centre in advancing “the state of the art” of management in the Agriculture sector”, and will provide a $5,000 scholarship to students entering the MBA program at the CME. This scholarship will begin with the new MBA class in 2013. Preference will be given to student applicants who have taken the Centre’s Food and Agriculture Excellence in Management (CFAME, formerly EDP) or the Canadian Total Excellence in Agricultural Management (CTEAM) programs. This initiative was begun by Larry Martin, currently Director, Education Services, at the Centre. Bob Seguin, Executive Director, George Morris Centre, stated “These three initiatives are the result of considerable effort and innovation by the team at the George Morris Centre, and are designed to improve the quality of service to members, visitors, alumni and clients, and showcase the ongoing product and service innovation and continued adaptation to new markets by the team at the Centre. These are all the start of continuing improvements in products and services from the Centre.”
