CSIDC field day July 10

June 9, 2014 - The Canada-Saskatchewan Irrigation Diversification Centre (CSIDC) is holding its annual irrigation field day and tradeshow on Thursday, July 10, 2014 in Outlook, Sask. The highlights of the 2014 event are soybean agronomy, variable rate irrigation pivots, and cereal and canola variety trials.

According to Gary Kruger, irrigation agrologist with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture, the day's events will include a view of the ongoing regional and co-op irrigated variety trials, and the Irrigation Crop Diversification Corporation's variety adaption trials for cereals, oilseeds, pulse and forage crops, agronomy trials and corn trials. A canola establishment method demonstration and a nitrogen rate on canola trial will be seen, as well as a flax mycorrhizal study. Details of the biobed used for sprayer tank cleanout and greenhouse gas research will also be viewed. In addition, the tour will feature variable rate irrigation (VRI) technology, which has been installed on five pivots at the centre. Several irrigation companies will be in attendance to explain their unique VRI features.

A morning field tour will provide an overview of the projects currently under way at CSIDC. In the afternoon, tours will focus on efficient application of water and automation of pivot operation with the use of the VRI systems.

The day will begin at 9 a.m. with a tradeshow. The morning tour begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. THe afternoon tours will begin at 1:30 p.m. There is no charge for admission. CEU credits are available for certified crop advisors.
