Ontario and Saskatchewan biotech companies commit to sharing
Written by

January 14, 2009

Guelph, Ontario -Entrepreneurs don’t have to travel very far to get their Ag-Bio based projects off the ground.

BioEnterprise in Ontario and Ag-West Bio Inc. in Saskatchewan are now working together to ensure that entrepreneurs throughout Canada receive the best in service delivery along the path to commercialization.

BioEnterprise Corporation and Ag-West Bio Inc, not-for-profit organizations committed to assisting entrepreneurs as they commercialize innovative ideas, will collaborate on providing commercialization services to their clients. They’ll share resources & networks, assist one another in assessing technologies, and help each other raise capital, ensuring that resources are literally going the distance to better assist everyday entrepreneurs in their own backyards.

BioEnterprise President and CEO Dave Smardon says "It’s an opportunity for two leading organizations in agri-innovation to collaborate on a much greater level. From research to innovation to development, we have the ability to connect our clients with the best resources available in the country."

Having recently established the Agri-Technology Commercialization Centre in Guelph, Ontario, BioEnterprise assists entrepreneurs as they commercialize innovative new products and technologies in the fields of agriculture, agri-food, bioproducts and agri-life sciences. Being the only Limited Market Dealer in Canada dedicated to agricultural technologies enables BioEnterprise to bring investment capital to commercialization opportunities within these sectors.

Former president and CEO of Ag-West Bio, Dr. Perry Lidster, believes the commitment between Ag-West and BioEnterprise was a natural progression. "Partnering with BioEnterprise broadens our horizons. In order to grow the bio-economy in Saskatchewan, we have to look outside the provincial boundaries and increase our market range." he says. "This agreement doubles our resources. Saskatchewan companies gain increased access to financing, market knowledge and partnering opportunities."

Ag-West Bio is a membership-based organization at Innovation Place Research Park in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The company works as a catalyst for developing partnerships and industry growth in the bio-economy through investments, aiding strategic alliances, providing regulatory advice and communications.
