Airlines sign MOU for camelina-based fuels
Dec. 15, 2009, Seattle – A group of 14 airlines from Canada, the US, Mexico and Germany has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to purchase 750 million gallons of camelina-based jet fuel and green diesel during the next 10 years.

Canadian government invests in pulse industry
Dec. 14, 2009 – The federal government announced the investment of more than three quarters of a million dollars for Pulse Canada, for the development of desiccants to help crops dry faster, with the potential of reducing chemical residues and building new export markets as a result.

Canadian exports on the rise – again
Dec. 11, 2009 – No sooner does the Globe and Mail report that commodity prices are on the way down (in a Dec. 9th story about New Holland's newest combine), here is a report that Canadian exports are on the way up, and that canola is a large part of the reason why.

Farmers advised to adopt balanced fertilization practices
Dec. 10, 2009 – According to the International Fertilizer Industry Association's "Short-term Fertilizer Outlook 2009-10", farmers need to look at their management practices and balance their use of nitrogen-based fertilizers against current low application rates for phosphorus and potassium.

US soybean exports continue building
Dec. 9, 2009 – Exports of US soybeans continue to grow, in spite of a fall harvest that has been less-than-ideal for growers there. More than 1.56 billion bushels of soybeans or soybean products have been shipped abroad, with China the biggest buyer, followed by Mexico.

Commercialization of corn & soybeans delayed
Dec. 9, 2009 – Seed company Pioneer Hi-Bred has announced it will delay the commercialization of its Optimum GAT technology, to 2014 or '15 for its corn hybrids, and 2013 or '14 for the company's soybean varieties.

University scientists find weapon to fight fungal poison
Dec. 7, 2009 – University of Guelph researchers have found a potential weapon against deoxynivalelnol (DON), the toxin produced by the fusarium fungus which infects cereal crops, and cost farmers in North America billions of dollars in separate outbreaks during the 1990s.

Limestone quarry threatens prime farm land
Dec. 7, 2009 – Battle lines have been drawn between a buyer of farmland in the Shelburne, Ontario-area and the farmers who have since learned that the buyer is going to mine limestone from beneath 2400 acres of that arable land.

Processor receives funding for biofuel plant
